Mongoose to Host Youth Jam Event At Source Park

Mongoose, a brand of Dorel Industries, Inc. (TSX: DII.B, DII.A), announced today their professional BMX freestyle team is heading to Source Park in Hastings, UK on May 18th to host the brand’s first annual Mongoose Am Jam.  The event – which will feature American riders Pat Casey, Kevin Peraza and Nikita Ducarroz, and UK riders Greg Illingworth, Ben Wallace, and Cam Peake – will give local youth the chance to meet, ride with, and learn tricks from the Mongoose team.

Since 2012, Mongoose has hosted an annual Jam event at Camp Woodward in Woodward, Pennsylvania. These Jam events bring together the Mongoose team and their peers in BMX, for an authentic blend of camaraderie and competition. To keep with the tradition of the previous Jam events, the Am Jam will also feature Jam-style sessions with Source Park BMX amateurs where they can show off their skills for prizes and awards from Mongoose pros.

“The Mongoose Am Jam is the next evolution with our events,” said Mongoose Team Manager Leigh Ramsdell. “While the Mongoose Jams have always had an amateur element, the Am Jam is more focused on up and coming riders to help grow the sport.  Our athletes will all be there checking out the new riders and offering up any advice to advance their riding. We’re super pumped to bring a jam to Source Park and create some excitement for BMX in the UK!”

The all-day Am Jam event will be split into two sessions: a morning clinic with young riders, who will get to meet the pros, ride Mongoose bikes, and have the chance to win prizes; while the afternoon session will be a contest for local amateurs by age bracket for awards/prizes from the Mongoose team.  The day will finish off with a Pro demo from the Mongoose athletes.

“I can’t wait to have the Mongoose team in Hastings riding and hanging out at my local spots,” Mongoose Pro Greg Illingworth commented. “I know all the kids and Ams are going to lose their minds when they see the whole team ripping at Source. There’s nothing better than a jam to bring riders together for a good time.”

The Mongoose Jam

The Mongoose Jam is a tribute to the camaraderie within BMX, joining seasoned pros and aspiring new talent alike to help build the BMX community.

As the oldest BMX brand, Mongoose has been in the game since 1974 with Skip Hess’ development of the MotoMag wheel and has played a key role ever since in the evolving sport of BMX.

Mongoose continues this legacy with the Jam, bringing seasoned pros together with young, rising talent to help pass the torch to the next generation.

With fewer BMX events taking place in 2012, Mongoose set out to create a new and unique competition for the top BMX Pro and Amateur riders in the world that has now become a staple in the action sports event landscape.

Now entering its seventh year, the Mongoose Jam has an updated format to coincide with the rising popularity of BMX video edits. Mongoose pro athletes now team up with two additional pro athletes, one videographer and an amateur athlete at Camp Woodward to ride, film and produce a team edit within five days. The participating athletes and videographers will view the finished edits and vote to see who wins the biggest chunk of our $40,000 prize purse.

Mongoose Jam Video Battle: Woodward, PA

The brand announces dates for the sixth annual Mongoose Jam

Madison, Wisc. – May 2, 2017 – Mongoose Bikes, a brand of Dorel Industries, Inc. (TSX: DII.B, DII.A), will head back to Woodward Camp in Woodward, PA, for the sixth annual Mongoose Jam. After two years at Woodward West in Tehachapi, California, the brand has decided to bring the event back East with their new Video Battle format.

From August 7th through 11th 15 pros, five videographers and five amateurs will film and produce five team edits competing for a $40,000 prize purse. At the end of the week, the teams’ edits will be premiered for Week Ten Woodward Campers. Prior to that, the edits will be judged by BMX industry veterans on originality, style and the difficulty of tricks used to determine the winning team.

Mongoose riders Greg Illingworth, Pat Casey, Kevin Peraza, Paul Ryan, and Ben Wallace will each captain one of five teams at the BMX-only event. Each captain will invite two pro BMX athletes and one videographer to join their teams. They will then draft one amateur from among the Woodward campers during the Amateur Contest to be held on August 7th.

Following the event on Monday, August 14th Mongoose will begin to release the edits on Ridebmx.com starting from last place to first where online voting will be held to determine which team gets the viewers’ choice award.

“This is our second year with the new video format for the Jam and I’m excited to see how it evolves as we switch up locations and head back east to Camp Woodward,” says Steve Wilcox, marketing manager for Mongoose. “I can’t wait to see what the amateurs bring this year. It’s great to see the up and coming talent. Hopefully being featured in these edits is the launch pad they need to start getting noticed at the next level.”

“The video contest really brings out the best and most creative riding from me,” says Greg Illingworth, Mongoose pro athlete. “It gives me the chance to focus on riding my best. I’m buzzing to be going back to Woodward – there’s so much to ride, and looking forward to trying out some new stuff.”

As captains select new athletes for their teams, Mongoose will share real-time updates on its website. In addition, the brand will post event news, release Jam teaser edits, and announce give-aways as the Mongoose Jam gets closer.
